Sick Snub Philosophy

I wonder why these snobbish ‘academic philosophers’ can’t be like Thomas DeQuincey.
He was a child scholar prodigy and a rehabilitated opium addict (been to hell) yet his philosophy was the ‘down-to-earth’ folk type and his morals were never in question like the ancient philosophers.
I bet this will hit targets.
